Jake started training jiu jitsu when he was just a teenager. A lifelong martial artist, Jake has also trained in wrestling, karate, kickboxing, and judo. He was a pro MMA fighter from 2005 to 2016, and dedicated his time in the cage to proving the efficacy of jiu jitsu. He’s been teaching since 2005 and is still an active BJJ competitor. As one of the first ten black belts in the state, he is an expert on jiu jitsu history in general and North Carolina jiu jitsu in particular. In his spare time, he can be found shouting corrections at MMA history podcasts.
